Course overview.
This one-day course covers the benefits-realisation lifecycle from business-case construction through to the post-implementation review three years later. The methodology draws on the Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) approach plus the empirical research on why benefits routinely fail to materialise — and what the projects that do realise their benefits have in common.
Who it's for.
Programme directors, project sponsors, business-case authors, transformation leads, business analysts and PMO leads. Particularly useful for organisations whose senior leadership has become sceptical about the return on previous project investment, and who need to rebuild that trust.
What you'll learn.
Designing benefits into the business case
The benefits-mapping techniques that link enablers (project outputs) to business changes to measurable benefits. Categorising benefits (cash, non-cash, value-protection, dis-benefits), assigning ownership, and the business-case structures that survive contact with the post-implementation review.
Measurement, baselines and the honesty problem
Benefits measurement requires baselines — and most projects don't have them. We cover the practical techniques for establishing baselines (even mid-project), measurement design, the difference between leading and lagging indicators, and the honesty disciplines that prevent benefits-realisation reporting from drifting into wishful thinking.
Realisation, governance and the post-implementation review
The governance structures, accountabilities and review cadences that make benefits realisation actually happen after the project team has disbanded. Plus the post-implementation review discipline — including the willingness to record honestly when benefits weren't realised.

What delegates said.
A few examples of the kind of feedback delegates might share after completing our Project Benefits Realisation training — understanding how to identify, plan for and measure the benefits that projects are designed to deliver.
The course helped me understand the difference between delivering a project and actually delivering the benefits the project was intended to achieve. I came away with a much clearer approach to benefits planning.
A very practical course that made benefits realisation much easier to understand. The exercises helped me think about how benefits should be identified, measured and tracked throughout the life of a project.
I particularly liked the focus on making benefits measurable and linking them back to organisational objectives. It gave me some useful ideas that I can apply to the projects I work on.
